Story First, Tools Second

The Challenge

I came across this post about a mixed reality flight simulator for the AH-64 Apache. The technology was remarkable, but the treatment was standard: specs, features, quotes. So I gave myself a challenge: could I pair my storytelling instinct with a new AI production toolkit and find the narrative the spec sheet was hiding?

The story wasn't the hardware. It was this: Apache pilots could face the worst day of their careers hundreds of times before it ever happens. That's not a product feature. That's a story about preparation, pressure, and confidence, and it's the kind of insight no tool finds for you.

The Build

•       Script: prompted Claude to think like a high-end marketing firm and write a sub-60-second narrative with a hook, a clear arc, and specific shots.

•       References: environment frames from publicly available video, plus free DVIDS military photography for light and intensity.

•       Character: built in Higgsfield AI (Soul 2.0) for a consistent lead across shots.

•       Anchor frames: locked the opening and closing stills first (Nano Banana 2) for each video clip created.

•       Motion and voice: Kling 3.0 for video, ElevenLabs for narration.

•       Critique: aviator and video friends pressure-tested every cut for authenticity and pace.

AI compressed a multi-day, multi-vendor production into a one-person spec piece. The tools executed; experience decided. New tools. Old discipline. Story first.
