My Career
Director of Creative Services, U.S. Department of Labor Washington, DC | Dec 2018 - Dec 2025
Led the U.S. Department of Labor’s internal creative agency, driving branding, motion graphics, livestream production, event creative, and social storytelling for high-visibility national initiatives. We produced content supporting Cabinet-level leadership, major press events, and national worker-protection campaigns. Our multi-platform, bilingual launch for the Workers Owed Wages campaign—turning an overlooked government database into a personal call to action (“You might have money waiting”) —resulted in nearly $22M returned to more than 4,800 workers in 2024.
Under my leadership, our creative services team consistently delivered fast-turn, private sector-quality content—1,000+ requisitions annually—while managing a vendor ecosystem and a $2.6M creative operations budget.
Executive Video Producer, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Washington, D.C. | Oct 2011 - Dec 2018
Executive video producer for EPA’s in-house creative production studio—driving concept development, scripting, motion design, cinematography, and editing for national campaigns that translated complex environmental science into emotionally compelling visual storytelling. Pitched, produced, shot, and edited the Emmy-winning PSA “Beneath the Surface,” viewed by 2M+ people, establishing EPA’s modern digital visual storytelling aesthetic and setting a new standard for how the agency communicates science to the public.
Video Producer/Journalist, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Washington, DC | Oct 2008 - Oct 2011
Led video storytelling and production for VA’s flagship national broadcast, shaping narratives that highlighted Veteran stories and the impact of VA programs. Developed concepts, wrote scripts, produced field shoots, and directed edits to translate policy and complex benefits into human, emotionally resonant storytelling. Partnered with leadership and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy while maintaining narrative clarity and brand voice.
Public Affairs / Broadcast Journalist, U.S. Army Various Locations | Oct 1997 - Oct 2008
Led global broadcast storytelling and media operations as a senior producer and on-air correspondent, including anchoring “Army NewsWatch” with a potential worldwide reach of 10M+ viewers across 70 countries. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the unit established and managed the Coalition Press Information Center in Kuwait, supporting 2,000+ international journalists. Bronze Star recipient for leadership and performance in a combat environment in Northern Iraq.
Hi, I’m Ray —
a lifelong storyteller, creative director, and proud dad who somehow manages to juggle video shoots, pottery wheels, and soccer highlight reels without spilling my coffee. After 25+ years leading creative teams in the federal world, I’m now diving headfirst into new adventures where good ideas, good people, and good design meet. When I’m not behind a camera or shaping clay, you can find me chasing great food, better stories, and the next project that makes me say, “Yeah, let’s make that happen.”
